Zero Visibility

We thought we had scheduled our recent mountain trip for peak week for the leaves and were eager to see God's glory and power manifested in the beautiful, brightly colored landscapes.  No trees had turned here when we left, and they were only beginning to change colors when we arrived in the mountains.  Worse, the pattern of tropical storms that had delivered rain to our city of residence for the past nine days also sent rain to the mountains.  With rain comes fog, so the visibility was very poor.  The weather forecast called for 30% chance of rain on Monday in the morning, clearing by mid-day.  So we decided to visit the caverns (to further enhance the kids' study of rocks last year) in the morning while the rain poured down with the hope that it would clear out by the time we were ready to hit Grandfather Mountain.

 

Unfortunately, the rain never stopped, so we toured the mountain in the fog.  Instead of looking a full mile down from the bridge atop Grandfather Mountain, we could barely see our hands in front of our faces.

We also did some hiking through the muddy trails, but the rocks were super slippery.  Undaunted, the kids still climbed Black Rock while I waited at the bottom to catch them when they fel
