We just returned from a family trip to the mountains. As I searched out boarding options, I was impressed with the number of offers we received to keep him. Apparently that little bunny has quite the fan club which may be partially due to the sheer number of photos of him I post on Facebook. We have a complicated relationship, that bunny and me. He drives me crazy, yet I do love him so. I guess he's like a third child in that regard. :-)
We finally decided to let a college friend of mine keep him during our trip. He's been wanting to get his two girls (who are close in age to our kids) a pet for quite some time, but his wife refused. Plus, she's allergic to cats, his pet of choice. A recent trip to Biltmore House put the idea in their heads to consider a smaller pet, perhaps a guinea pig or rabbit. Interestingly, the angora bunny at Biltmore House is what finally prompted us to get a rabbit this past March. His girls were over the moon when he told them they would be bunny sitting though I suspect his wife was less excited.
Soon after I dropped him off, my college friend, whom I had not seen in person in over 20 years, was texting us photos of Cody living large at their nice home. And being the hard core structural engineer that he is, he made sure to
install some nice structural improvements to Cody's cage dwelling. Instead of keeping him in the garage as we had originally planned, they brought him into their beautiful living room. They just completely remodeled their kitchen which included nice new hardwoods. Yet, they let him run freely with those sharp claws across those floors. They were so slick, however, that he slid around so the wife, who did not want a pet initially, moved her nice rugs from the foyer to her kitchen so he could hop around there as well.
That bunny captured their hearts completely. One daughter even left sweet notes in the cage when I picked him up. Seriously, that bunny has received more love notes in his short 8.5 months of life than I have in the past 10 years!
