Date Knight 2012

My son and I had so much fun together at the Chick-fil-A mother/son date "knight" last year that we were eager to attend again this year.  We made reservations at a different location that would be closer for my husband since he would be meeting us there on his commute from work to take our daughter to a Y Princess service outing at the rescue mission downtown.

This location was not decorated nearly as elaborately as last year's restaurant, but when my son saw the super hero bounce house out back, he could care less about the decor.  At least they still had flowers for the moms and conversation starters at the tables.  His answers to those conversation starters were as follows:

What does a boy have to do to become a knight?
Answer:  Be Brave

Who is the bravest person you know?Answer:  Jesus

What can you protect your mom or others against?
Answer:  Robbers

Is being a knight just about fighting with a sword?
Answer:  No, it's also about helping others and taking a stand.

Would you rather live on the moon or underwater in the ocean?
Answer:  Underwater
(Note: His dad was previously a submariner, and he has an submarine themed bedroom)

Would you rather be a spider for a week or an elephant for a year?
Answer:  Neither, but if I had to choose, it would be an elephant so I don't get squashed.

On our way to the restaurant, my husband notified me that he was running late due to work issues and stuck in traffic.  Since we had reservations at 5:30, we could not wait for him to begin our "date", so my girl would just have to tag along.  The servers were very gracious to her, and the Chick-fil-A cow offered to be her date.  They were so adorable together.

Last year, my son dressed up as a "knight in shining armor" for our date, but he had also offered to wear a suit.  This year, he just wanted to wear school/play clothes.  Had I known he would spend most of his time in a bounce house, that would have been fine, but I wanted to teach him to dress nicely for special occasions, so jeans and a polo made a nice compromise.  Last year, he was excited about the one-on-one time with me, but this year, he seemed more interested in whether or not he would get one of those delicious Chick-fil-A cookies.  Considering how tasty those fresh-from-the-oven cookies are, who can blame him?  And it just goes to show that boys can be fickle...just like girls.

All-in-all, we had a lovely evening at Chick-fil-A followed by a fun time shopping for toys.
