On the next to the last day of school, our daughter's class presented a Christmas band & chorus concert. My son joined me in attendance. Our daughter wishes she could be a part of the chorus, band, and orchestra, but for now she is in the chorus.
After the concert, my son raced off to join his class as they went caroling up and down the lower and upper grammar halls, passing out candy and spreading joy. His enthusiasm over caroling, given how much he complains about being forced to participate in church choir, was a gift indeed. (Gift #851)
The children's choir serenaded guests before each show which helped put all the guests into the Christmas mood. (Gift #853) And considering that our church gave out 3500 tickets within the first week (tickets were free), there were a lot of guests there! (Gift #854)
This Year's performance was "A Classic Christmas" with traditional hymns, full orchestra and band, and a formal, worshipful setting. With so many churches putting on elaborate shows with fantastic light displays and fog generators, this year's traditional approach was a breath of fresh air. (Gift #855) The kids sounded like angelic hosts up in the loft behind the choir and orchestra. They were such a beautiful sounding addition to a performance typically reserved only for adults! (Gift #856) Nana, Pops, Susan, and Jessica came with me to the show (Gift #857), and my husband got us seats right up front. (Gift #858)
Even though the concert was held in our capital city and not in the suburb where our school and home is, I was surprised to see one of the other rhetoric teachers playing the viola during the concert and a staff member and board director at the show. Our school is providing a much needed sense of connectedness for me. (Gift #859)
