Science Festival

It's always fun to visit the kids' school when they have special events.  Last week, the school held a mini science festival, so the kids rotated from booth to booth learning about various fields of science from electricity and magnetism to microbiology and genetics.  They learned about the human body and weather patterns.  Statics and dynamics, favorite fields of mine, were also introduced.

I was glad we dropped by the fossils booth since it reinforced some of the information presented in our family movie night video choice last week entitled Thousands, Not Billions.  The video discussed the conflicting estimates regarding the age of the earth, radioisotopes in the diabase sill, incongruent dating methods, fission tracks, radio halos, carbon dating, etc. The kids actually paid attention and took notes.

The whole family enjoyed the genetics display where they tried to guess which children belonged to which set of parents and which parents belonged to which set of grandparents.

I got a chuckle out of this little cartoon affixed to the corner of a display about amoebas.

We also got to vote for the Wright Brothers replica plane we liked best.  I was so amused by the difference between some of the girls' creations and the boys'.

Here are the scrapbook pages I made for each of our kids.
Since my husband works about 55 miles (80 minutes) away from the kids' school, he doesn't get there often.  This science event was his first opportunity to see our son's classroom.  Our little boy really enjoyed showing his daddy his desk, locker, and portfolio of school work.
