He survived and thrived through 2nd grade

Our son had a fabulous school year after just starting at the new school during the second semester of first grade. I adore his teacher.  I tutored her son last year, and he made remarkable progress, so I already knew her in that way, but I really got to know her this year as a partner on the "A Team" as we strove to make improvements at the school.  She is hilarious, and when we invited her and two other teachers and their spouses over for dinner one night, it was way past her bedtime before she ever looked at her watch.  Time flies when you are laughing and having fun.  She became a bit of a confidant for me as I shared my struggles and concerns with teaching and with our own's son needs, and she offered encouragement, counsel, and help in getting the STEM program started.  She's the best.  And by God's grace, thankfully, her son continued to thrive as a tutoring client even as we cut our sessions back from one hour to 30 minutes.

Names have meaning, and this teacher's married last name describes her ministry at this school. As the heart pumps life giving blood throughout the body, this teacher is all heart, pumping God's life giving truth and lots of love throughout her lessons and into the hearts of her students. Mrs. Bloodworth helps her students understand that they have infinite worth as evidenced by Christ's shed blood for each of them. She reminds students that they were created for a great purpose, and with that purpose comes responsibility

Here is a recap on some of his more exciting school activities the last quarter with pics other parents uploaded to our class website.
Field Day took place three days before the last day of school for grades K-5.  My son doesn't take sports seriously.  It's all fun and games to him, and I could not convince him to eat breakfast that morning.  And now he wonders why he didn't win any ribbons.  His class had several kids with various handicaps, so they came in dead last on all the class events, but those kids' attitudes about it made them real winners.

Two days before the last day of school, Mrs. Bloodworth's class hosted Pet Day.
Students' parents brought their pets to the school for the students to introduce and describe.  There we met an adorable  Siberian cat which matched all the criteria I had set for buying a cat:  white/gray in color, blue eyes, adorable, hypoallergenic.  I even started shopping for breeders and then Siberian cats in need of rescue that same afternoon.
After Pet Day, the kids had a little fun review, and then they walked to Mrs. Bloodworth's home (it backs up to the school) for a hotdog lunch in her backyard and lots of time playing with her dogs.  After school, all the second graders in the school went to a very exclusive neighborhood park for an end-of-year party that concluded with a water balloon fight, boys vs. girls.

The last day of school was an awards assembly with early release after the assembly.  My husband took the day off work, so he could attend.   D'Nealian handwriting kept our boy from making the all A honor roll (same as his sister as I taught them both Zaner Bloser method instead), but he only made 3 B's all year (all in handwriting), so he did at least make the A/B Honor Roll.  Here are pics of him receiving his award.
Saying goodbye on the last day of 2nd grade
