When we told our son that we were attending a family dance where the boys must ask each young lady's father for permission before he asks her to dance and that the guys should make sure every girl has been asked to dance for each song, he groaned and said, "I'm just going to hang out by the food table while you all dance."
Within the first 10 minutes, he was on the dance floor, confidently approaching fathers and asking ladies to dance. On the way home he said, "That was fun. I like dancing."
Thank you, Christ Church, for hosting, and hats off to all the fathers who made sure their daughters said "yes" to him
Our kids are not interested in attending cotillion yet, but thankfully these dances go a long way in teaching social etiquette but in more of a Christ honoring setting.
Learning a few social graces
will not erase silly faces.
The boys outnumbered the girls, so my husband had to manage a long waiting list of guys who wanted to dance with our daughter next. will not erase silly faces.
My husband and I had so much fun. I'm so glad he likes to dance. During the mixer dances, several young men, all very polite and knew the dances well, mentioned that they remember me from school when I subbed for one of their high school classes. I felt like a shadow when I filled in for various teachers (although the theology class was my favorite as I got to discuss subjects I enjoy most with the students at a deeper level), so I was surprised they would recognize me and remember me by name.
Our son took a few pictures before he started dancing. We warned him not to zoom in too close on our faces, because that's a rude thing to do to old people. (Wrinkles look better from a distance don't you know.) So the next picture he took was clear and from a distance, but my husband's face and my head were blurred as if he was saying, "If you say so!" We were just moving faster than everyone else. I'm bummed all the pics were blurry, but a cell phone camera just can't handle my hubby and me in action on the dance floor. :-)
