Our daughter got to play basketball for her school for the first time this past season. Built like a gymnast, we wondered how she would do as the shortest girl in her class playing against 6th through 8th graders from larger schools. I love to watch her shoot because she leaps so high with toes pointed and arms arched as if she's about to a do a long tumbling run instead of soot a basketball.
She worked really hard and became a very skillful point guard. Her happiest moments on the court are when she makes a steal and dribbles the ball down the court for a lay-up. She played against several of her friends from church and impressed the coach at one rival school so much that he asked her to play on his traveling AAU team. She got exempt from try-outs and starts with that team next week. The coach also happens to be her Sunday School teacher, so he knows her heart, and I guess you could say she has connections. :-)
Nana and Pops drove up to watch her play at a rival team's school nearby. They were amazed at how much she has improved since she played Upward basketball many years ago.
I wish I had gotten more pictures of her playing, but we got spoiled during volleyball with the head coach being a pro photographer who took so many great pics and shared them with the parents. We did not even get a team picture this season, and her basketball friends are super special to her.
