Skeet Shooting

While we were in OK, our house received three showing requests.  All the feedback was very positive with one resulting in a written offer!  While at the splash park that week, I worked with our realtor to negotiate counter offers.  We dealt with the excitement and stress of having to be out of the house in less than three weeks knowing we would not fly home for another three days.  We wrestled with the uncertainty of what we would do about the kids' schooling after I had already paid for a year's tuition at a school 45-60 minutes from where we hoped to move.  We looked at options to buy our next house and began making temporary lodging arrangements.  Then after all that was done, the buyers backed out of the deal.  That makes three buyers who wanted to buy the house but then backed out in the past month.

To handle this emotional roller coaster, we did a lot of praying.  A friend gave me John 11:40, and I clung to that verse believing that God had a purpose for this house saga which we have endured for the past four years.

John 11:40 (NIV)

40 Then Jesus said, “Did I not tell you that if you believe, you will see the glory of God?”
A precious friend and writer of  Truth in Weakness gave me just the encouragement I needed.  She reminded me that God's goal for all of us is to draw us closer to Himself.  By trusting Him through all the twists and bumps in life, we do draw closer to Him while also shining His light to others.  May we all seek to know Him more, moment by moment, whether the days bring joys or sorrows, questions or answers, uncertainty or clarity.

My husband's parents have a pond on their land which is surrounded by a private wooded area. It's a great spot for shooting skeet.   After all that house turmoil, skeet shooting seemed like a great way to blow off steam while having some fun, too.  My husband's youngest brother, who is 6'4" tall, graciously provided his gun, shells, and clay pigeons.  My 5'2" frame had trouble holding that extra long gun, but at least I managed to hit the first one with my first ever gun fire.

It became quite obvious that my husband had been an expert marksman in the navy when he hit most of his skeet.  One shot must have been a perfect bullseye as the clay pigeon shattered into about 8 symmetrical pieces.
