After receiving her first consultation for braces at the end of last summer, our daughter had to wait until the beginning of this summer to finally get them because we wanted to set aside pre-tax money in our health FSA account to offset some of the high cost. I'm so glad we did, however, because it also gave us more time to get additional consultations, and the third consultation estimated 3-6 months less time in braces and $600 less in overall costs for us. Plus, the third consultation was with a doctor whose kids go to our school and who is very generous to the school. We like him a lot and trust him. The kids like all his incentives for good dental hygiene as well. He's the king of prizes, and I'm happy for anything that inspires them to take better care of their teeth. Plus, his office is closer to our house and to the kids' school.
