Holely Reward

Our daughter needed some motivation to finish Suzuki piano volume one and to prepare for her solo performance.  So we agreed that she could get her ears pierced after successfully completing the recital.

Considering how many times I have fainted when jabbed with a needle, I was nervous about taking her to get her ears pierced.  I still remember the sound of those 9mm guns firing after our adventures with the Dragon Slayers at the shooting range this past summer, so I imagined the piercing gun would be much louder than it really was.  I sought input on where to have the piercing done and really hoped our pediatrician would do it in case I fainted, but he doesn't pierce ears.   Others insisted it was safest to have it done at a tattoo parlor, but I would surely pass out there where needles abound, and I wasn't ready for my daughter to begin asking for tattoos or body piercings in other areas.  So, we eventually decided to take her to Merle Norman Cosmetic Studio during the hours when the owner who is most experienced with ear piercings would most likely be there.  Our daughter chose her birthstone in a cute star-shaped setting for her first pair of earrings.

I was nervous, but she was too excited to feel nervous until she felt the sting of the first ear.  They don't do both ears at once at Merle Norman, so the worst part for our daughter was getting the second ear done after realizing that it does indeed hurt.  She wanted to squeeze my hands for the second ear, but I think I still squeezed her much harder than she squeezed me.

When the deed was done, she grinned from ear hole to ear hole.  She's looking much too grown up these days.
