Lessons From Mom (Part 5): Reap What You Sow

... and with you, Lord, is unfailing love”; and, “You reward everyone according to what they have done.”  (Psalm 62:12)

I have seen Galatians 6:7-8 evidenced in my mother's life.  Indeed, we reap what we sow.  She has sown kindness, faithfulness, friendship, and generosity.  Now she is reaping the fruit from those friendships she has forged.  Her birthday party was a splendid celebration because so many people love her and wanted to celebrate with her (Romans 12:15).

Before the party (bottom left), Mom had no clue what was about to take place.
Some people got a little misty eyed when she first walked into the party room. (oops!)
Mom almost always has a favorite color scheme or favorite set of collectibles.  Her tendency to have favorites has made gift buying easier.  It also prompts others to think of her when they see items for her collections while out shopping.  Since she has always liked the color blue and decorates with blue and yellow, we naturally chose those colors for her party.
There is a funny story behind that flower arrangement.  Mom and her sister are experts at repurposing.

In addition to having favorite colors and collectibles, Mom also had a favorite song while dating Dad.  So, our kids dressed up in 50s era clothing (the poodle skirt was made by the kids' paternal grandmother) and performed that 1955 number one hit single as a dedication to my parents who will celebrate 50 years of marriage next year.  Having and expressing "favorites" sure is helpful to others who want to give back to you!

To conclude this series, I want to say thanks, Mom, for all the lessons you have taught me over the years and for modeling a life well lived.
Deuteronomy 4:40
Keep his decrees and commands, which I am giving you today, so that it may go
well with you and your children after you and that you may live long in the land the LORD your God gives you for all time.
